This page gives general facts from the medicine label. It is not medical advice. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about your treatment.
Each weekly GLP-1 shot goes under the skin in one of three body areas. The label also tells you to use a different site each week. This page shows the areas and an easy way to change sites.
The three areas on the label
| Medicine | Areas |
|---|---|
| Ozempic | Abdomen, thigh or upper arm |
| Wegovy | Abdomen, thigh or upper arm |
| Mounjaro | Abdomen or thigh. Another person can inject in the back of the upper arm. |
| Zepbound | Abdomen or thigh. Another person can inject in the back of the upper arm. |
Change the site each week
The labels tell you to rotate injection sites with each dose. The Ozempic label adds: when you inject in the same body area, use a different site in that area each week.
An easy plan is to go round the areas in the same order. For example:
- Week 1: left side of the abdomen
- Week 2: right side of the abdomen
- Week 3: left thigh
- Week 4: right thigh
Then start again. Your doctor, nurse or pharmacist can show you a plan that is right for you.
If you also use insulin
The Ozempic and Mounjaro labels say: give the two medicines as separate injections, and never mix them. You can use the same body area, but do not put the two injections next to each other.
If a site is red, sore or itchy
Write down the site, the day and what you see. Show your notes to your doctor or pharmacist. They can tell you what to do.
