This page gives general facts from the medicine label. It is not medical advice. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about your treatment.
How you take a Rybelsus tablet changes how much medicine goes into your body. The label gives you four steps and one wait of 30 minutes. This page shows them in plain words.
The steps on the label
- Take one tablet in the morning, on an empty stomach.
- Swallow it whole with water. Use no more than 4 ounces (120 mL) of water.
- Do not split, crush or chew the tablet.
- Wait at least 30 minutes. Then you can eat, drink or take other medicines by mouth.
The label also says: take no more than one tablet each day. Do not take the tablet with a drink that is not water.
Why the wait is important
The medicine in the tablet must go into your body through your stomach. The studies on the label show two things:
- More medicine went into the body when people waited longer before they ate.
- Less medicine went into the body with a large glass of water (240 mL) than with a little water (50 mL).
So wait at least 30 minutes, and use only a little water.
If you forget a tablet
The label says: skip the missed tablet, and take the next one the following day. Do not take two tablets on one day.
Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets
The same label now covers two tablets: Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets. The steps above are the same for both. The doses are not the same, and you cannot change one for the other mg for mg.
| Days | Rybelsus | Ozempic tablets |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 30 | 3 mg | 1.5 mg |
| 31 to 60 | 7 mg | 4 mg |
| 61 and after | 7 mg or 14 mg | 4 mg or 9 mg |
Your doctor decides your dose and when it changes.
Make the wait easy
- Keep the tablets and a small glass next to your bed.
- Take the tablet when you wake up, before coffee or tea.
- Use a timer for the 30 minutes.
